PROGRAM OVERVIEW

FDI Fellows work closely with the FDI team to learn about public administration, nonprofit organizational management, event coordination, project development, leadership, and communication. Through involvement in FDI activities and completion of an independent, service learning project, fellows will contribute to advancing the FDI's mission of fostering speech and debate education and civic literacy.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Acquire practical experience in education, public administration, and nonprofit management

 

Understand how to meet organizational / community needs 

 

Strengthen project management skills by using ADDIE to develop a solutions-focused project that supports the goals of the FDI

 

Develop a sense of civic responsibility and commitment to community engagement

 

Enhance professional communication skills (oral and written)

ORIENTATION
& TRAINING

Fellows will participate in an orientation session to familiarize themselves with the FDI's mission, programs, and organizational structure. They will receive training on relevant topics such as public speaking, event planning, and project management.

MENTORSHIP & SUPERVISION

Each fellow will be paired with a mentor from the FDI team who will provide guidance, feedback, and support throughout the fellowship. Mentors and fellows will meet regularly to discuss progress, set goals, and address any challenges.

PROJECT
ASSIGNMENT

Fellows will create or be assigned specific projects or programs within the FDI based on the fellow’s interests and skills. These projects may include conducting outreach to schools and communities, developing educational resources, and assisting with fundraising efforts. 

STIPEND

Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,000 for their service during the term of the fellowship. This stipend is intended to recognize contributions and support participation. Based on program needs and available resources, there may be an option to apply for an additional semester and stipend.
